Septiembre 2011 Inauguracion Parque Cerrillos

El Aeropuerto de los Cerrillos, estaba ubicado en un gran terreno  triangular, limitado por las avenidas Pedro Aguirre Cerda, Departamental, General Velásquez y la actual Autopista Vespucio Sur, ocupando unas 250 hectáreas . Su origen se remonta a 1928, cuando el  norteamericano Daniel Güggenheim dono a Chile unos 500 mil dólares de la epoca, con el objeto que fuesen utilizados en el fomento de la aviación civil  que recien estaba iniciándose en Chile. Curiosamente, uno de los propulsores de la aviacion chilena fue el Sr Cesar Copetta, cuya familia tendria en Santiago la ultima representacion de repuestos Studebaker, en Avenida Bulnes.

Con el dinero donado por Güggenheim se adquirio la "Hacienda Los Cerrillos", destinada  a la producción de cereales y alfalfa,  una lechería y una viña vitivinifera. A pesar de las lomas que dieron su nombre, el terreno nivelado era  ideal para instalar una pista pues no tenia obstaculos naturales en un amplio radio, lo cual se puede visualizar estando alli y mirando hacia los 4 puntos cardinales.

La inauguración de las obras se efectuo el 16 de mayo de 1929, con el trazado de la  pista del aeródromo. El edificio, modernos, con un restaurant que estuvo de moda siempre,  se inauguro el 30 de julio de 1934 cuando la nueva rama militar aérea de Chile conto finalmente con su  "Puerto Aéreo"  en los Cerrillos, aeropuerto romantico y con clase, que vio el despegue infinito de DC 3 , DC 6, Constellations (de tres colas) , Caravelles y Avros entre otros, de lineas hoy desaparecidas como Ladeco,  Condor, Panagra, Branniff , Aero Peru, Ecuatoriana de Aviacion,  TWA y tantas otras que solo son nostalgia.

El triste despojo del aeropuerto ocurrio cuando un presidente con aires  de gran señor decidio construir alli, entre otras cosas, la "Casa de los Presidentes de Chile", idea prontamente desechada. Hoy todo se reduce a un Parque que fue inaugurado en Septiembre de 2011 donde  La Gaceta de los Clasicos fue invitada a exponer un grupo limitado de automoviles. pero tal como se prometia en la convocatoria:  "No hay premios, “rock”, ni pin-ups pero si se tratará de una buena oportunidad para mirar, mostrar y conversar de autos; aparte de ganarnos, quizá, el derecho de hacer eventos en un espacio donde caben 3.000 vehículos!".  En resumen, un evento basico, donde tuvimos la oportunidad de desfilar por el interior del aeropuerto, entre una cincuentena de autos (el acceso era restringido). Participamos tres Studebakers de los que damos cuenta en las siguientes fotos, curiosamente, todas "de cola"
 

 
Cerrillos octubre 201: Studebaker Champion 1941 vs Cupe de Luxe vs FxxD 1946. ¿Cual tiene un diseño  mas moderno? . Indudable respuesta. A pesar de ser 5 años mas antiguo, el Champion 46 se ve mas moderno y liviano que el FXXD. El trabajo de la oficina de Raymond Loewy destacaba al Champion por sobre sus competidores . Este cupe es uno de los Studes mas hermosos de que disfrutamos en Chile

Studebaker Champion 1941 vs Cupe de Luxe vs FxxD 1946: Which one has the most modern aspect? Without any doubt, even being 5 yeras older, the design of the Studebaker Champion looks more modern and graceful than the 1946 FXXD. The work of Raymond Loewy shows  itself giving to the Champion a better look that their competitors.  

Solo 20 años pasaron entre el Champion 41 Sedan y el Lark 1961. A pesar de 20 años, comparten varios principios constructivos tipicos de Stude siendo la principal diferencia el motor. En el Lark 61 la Stude inauguro su primer motor six con valvulas a la cabeza, terminando la produccion regular de los motores Champion de cabeza  plana. En la parte superior de la foto se alcanza a ver un avion de la escuadrilla acrobatica Halcones.     

2011: Viña Doña Javiera

En la primavera de 2011  Studebakerchile fue invitado a visitar las instalaciones de viña Doña Javiera. Un sitio donde se respira historia pues  las casas y parque de la Viña pertenecieron a una de las madres de la Patria,  Doña Javiera Carrera.

Aqui vimos flamear orgullosa  primera bandera patriota, con sus colores representando el trigo, la nieve y el mar chilenos. Desgraciadamente la bandera actual dejo fuera de la evocacion a nuestra agricultura y sus riquezas naturales.

On springtime 2011 Studebakerchile was invited to visit an historic place. Doña Javiera Vineyards. A place where history is in the air. The houses and park were property of one of the mothers of the nation. Mrs Javiera Carrera .

We proudly saw the first patriot flag with its intersting colros representing wheat, snow and sea. Unfortunately in the current flag the reference to agriculture and our natural resources was taken out.

El lugar ademas posee historias como la del tunel que conecta con  la Iglesia de la ciudad cercana por donde escapaba el ejercito patriota. El ejercito solia esconderse en este sitio propiedad de Doña Javiera.  Tambien cobija la fuente que ilustraba los antiguos billetes de $1000.

The place also has some tales such as the tunnel that connect the place with the church at the nearest town, tunnel that was suposedly used by the patriot army (that was commonly hosted in this place)  to escape from the spanish during the independence battles. The place also has the historic fountain that was ilustrated in the older $1000  bank billets.

2010: Aniversario del Museo

El Museo Moncopulli de Bernardo Eggers es sin lugar a dudas la "Casa de los Studebakers en Chile" . En Noviembre de 2010 el museo cumple 15 años de exitosa vida.  Deseamos desde  aqui muchas felicidades al Museo  y  a las personas detras de el que han hecho de este Museo el unico museo de automoviles "con alma y corazon" .

La foto  corresponde al mas nuevo miembro de la familia  del museo: Una preciosa 2R5 fabricada en 1952 y que ha sido  recien restaurada completamente  y mantenida en sus colores originales.   El Ministro de Cultura visito el Museo en Septiembre de este año. Alli ratifico la eleccion de Bernardo Eggers, el creador del Muse Studebaker en Chile oficialmente como uno de los 200 hombres del bicentenario. Bernardo celebro tan especial distincion recorriendo nada menos que 2334 kilometros del Rally Bicentenario, de Puerto Montt a Santiago y  1000 kilometros mas regreso a Osorno  en su Studebaker Hawk de 1961. Total con, recorridos intermedios, de 3600 kilometros.  Ningun problema   En esta fotografìa enviada por Bernardo  vemos a la 2R5 ya instalada en lugar de honor en el museo  como buen "regalo de cumpleaños"

 

Visitas en el Museo - Visits in the Museum

Durante Octubre de 2008 , el Museo Studebaker localizado en Moncopulli, Osorno, fue visitado por especiales motivos:

Un grupo de entusiastas peruanos y Colombianos  de Ford A se encuentran haciendo un rally desde Colombia , pasando por Argentina hasta llegar a Chile. Por supuesto un Museo Studebaker es atractivo para los amantes de los FXXd y así se aprecia en esta foto tomada en la entrada del museo con su hermoso Lark usado de marquesina . . Peruvian and Colombian Ford A enthusiasts  are making a Rally from Colombia, travelling to Argentina and then to Chile. Even for a Group of FxxD enthusiasts  a Studebaker museum is atractive. In the photo their cars  under the protection of the Lark godness.   

Por los mismos días , los editores de la revista brasileña Classic Show también sucumben a los encantos de Studebaker en el Museo. Para próximos reportajes se les ve tomando fotos de los Hawks como de los iconicos Commander de 1950, Punta de avion .  On the same days  the editors of the brazilian magazine Classic Show  also come to the Museum to enjoy the Studebaker delights. For next reports in their magazine , they took tons of photos being the 1950 Commander and the Hawks their favorites

Talagante 2008

Talagante car gathering is growing every year. Nevertheless the Studebaker  presence has maintained constant in atendance. The two new cars announced last year could not be ready for this show but we have a new car, the 1964 Commander that we see in the photos.  In this ocassion we prefered to take photos from unusual angles 

El evento anual de Talagante continua creciendo cada año. Sin embargo la presencia Studebaker se ha mantenido constante . Este año no pudieron ser presentados los dos nuevos Studes prometidos el año pasado aún cuando tuvimos una nueva incorporación : El Commander de 1964 que vemos en las fotos. Este año, preferimos tomar fotos de ángulos no comunes en nuestros autos.

     

Talagante 2007

As usual , again at the begining of spring, the anual gathering organized in the rural area named Talagante, called for hundreds of cars. Any car older than 20 years is welcomed to this event , even if it is a clasics, a daily use unrestored one or a rat rod. So, an amazing collection of cars can be found in Talagante. Of course Studebakerchile, with 7 cars  had  a strong presence. By the first time, a  Studebaker T shirt was given to all Studebakerchile members. Also was a surprise to know that one of the organizers of the event , Mr Diena, also owns a 48 Stude that we hope to congregate next year in our meeting point . After the event a light lunch allowed us to chat about new Studebaker findings and spare parts for our cars. The photos show a compact view of this Stude day

Como ya es una verdadera tradición en el mundo de tuerca.cl, al inicio de la primavera se organiza el encuentro anual  de Talagante, al que asisten cientos de automóviles. La diferencia de Talagante radica en que cualquier auto con 20 años de antiguedad es bienvenido, ya sea un clásico restaurado, un auto japones todavia en  uso diario o un rat rod. Esto hace que el encuentro Talagante sea realmente entretenido  y variado: este año fue especialmente Studebaker pues Studebakerchile congrego a 7 Studes y por primara vez se entregó la polera Studebaker a los miembros. por otra parte fue una sorpresa informarnos que el organizador del evento, Sr Aldo Diena tambien posee un Stude 48 que esperamos congregar el próximo año.     Las fotos muestran la buena actividad Stude del día

Early in the morning one of the first cars to arrive, was the group of Studes.  Three Studes waiting for the entrance to main Square in Talagante Once in the square, we put together all ours cars, just at the side of the entrance, so everybody could look the Studes 

 

 Jaime's white Lark has recently received a new coat of paint in a more similar hue to the original one . it shines.

At the end of the show, prizes were given. Studebaker people (in dark blue T shirt) were really happy. The best of show was awarded to the 41 Champion coupe. Also Studebakerchile received an award as best organized group.  Apart from trophy, prize consisted in a really appreciated good quality wine of the Maipo Valley.

Gran reunión de Clásicos  9 2007

On Septembre 2007  Tuerca.cl organized their 9th clasic car encounter. In this ocassion again more than 200 cars were present on a sunny day, and again Studebakers gave a high note , as the several usual cars attended plus a newcomer, a long time stored 1962 Lark . Their owner told us that he discovered this car in a barn , after 20 years of no use. Their engine started after the usual change of sparks and points , having a really nice condition,  without knocks  never missing a explosion .  A series of photo of this meeting are enclosed now.

En Septiembre de 2007 tuerca.cl organizo la Novena gran reunión de clásicos. Nuevamente los Studebakers dieron una nota alta sumando a los participantes usuales, un nuevo miembro: Un Lark de 1962, de color verde con techo blanco (opcional ) . Su dueño nos comento que  este Lark fue encontrado en un galpon en el sector de Mapocho, con mas de 20 años sin uso. Los neumaticos todavia son marca INSA. Luego del usual cambio de bujias y platinos, su motor funciona lindo, sin perder una explosion , sin golpes  y dando una marcha muy rápida. Se adjunta una serie de fotos de este encuentro.

Photos 6 and 8. This cherished 1956 Transtar was a photo star. Everybody loves to take photos at or with this truck. Even the TV used ut as a background for an interview to the organizers of the show.

 

 

Gran reunión de Clásicos  2007

Este evento fue muy especial para los aficionados a los Studebakers en Chile debido a tres razones: 1) Un Studebaker de 1950, modelo Punta de avión fue el emblema del evento y fue reproducido en un gran letrero caminero que adornó la rotonda Quilín por una semana , 2)  en segundo lugar , se repartieron 2000 posters con la imagen  del mismo punta de avión a todos los asistentes, lo que esperamos haya despertado los sueños de algún niño acerca de  los punta de avión y 3)  finalmente asistió e hizo un breve discurso en el escenario el Sr Bernardo Eggers, dueño del museo Studebaker en Moncopulli, Osorno

This meeting was very special for Studebaker lovers because a 1950 bullet nose was used as a symbol of the event, 2000 posters were delivered for free to all people attendant ( the poster had the Studebaker reproduction on it, probably triggering the dreams of some children about that car) and also the presence of the owner of the Studebaker Museum at Moncopulli, Osorno . The event was reported in the Jume 2007 issue of Turning Wheels, unfortunately not in color as it was our expectation .  We publish here the photos that were enclosed in TW, but here in color.

Your webmaster's Lark looks like a matchbox as compared with the giant  road sign advertising the Classic cars show.  It was exposed in a highway of high traffic, so thousands of people during the week could look at this Bullet Nose.

The older Stude in the Show was this nicely appointed Champion 1941. It has been cared with love and looks superb . Nothing existing in the road today compares with the 40's Champions.

El Studebaker mas antiguo del show fue este Champion de 1941 , cuyo dueño lo ha cuidado en forma extrema : Luce reluciente y como nuevo. Los Champion fueron diseñados par ser eternos. Nada de lo que hoy día se encuentra en la carretera se puede comparar con el diseño del Champion de los 40.

 

Talagante 2006 : Noviembre 2006

El encuentro anual de Talagante ya es una tradición en el circuito de los clásicos que en la edicion de 2006 alcanzó a mas de 160 vehículos.  Se destaca por la amplitud de criterio en recibir a todo quien quiera mostrar su auto, desde autos  en proceso de reparacion , en proceso d e restauración , recién descubiertos y en mal estado de presentación , hasta autos increíblemente  bien restaurados y relucientes.   Este año Studebakerchile aportó  sus tradicionales tres Larks cuyos propietarios son incansables asistentes a todos los eventos.  En esta ocasión los organizadores premiaron a Studebakerchile por cuidar de estos autos  tan poco comunes hoy en día y por mantenerlos en funcionamiento para embellecer las carreteras Chilenas. . 

The annual gathering in the rural town of Talagante, located at around 40 kilometers from Santiago is a tradition, that this year had their seventh edition, with more than 160 cars. The main characteristic of this encounter is the wide welcoming to any kind of car, just recently found and in sorry state, up to  shinny  just restored ones. This year Studebakerchile was there with their traditional threeLarks, whose owners are always present  in every meeting. This year , the organizators of Talagante gave a recognition to Studebakerchile for the effort to maintain such scarse cars and keep them rolling to adorn the Chilean roads..

 

PATRIMONIO SOBRE RUEDAS: Dia del patrimonio 2006- Tuerca.cl (28 may 2006)

Luego de larga inactividad en el medio de automóviles clásicos en Santiago, a esta festividad asistieron sobre 130 vehículos. Entre ellos, seis Studebakers. Algunos no vistos anteriormente , lo cual marca  un lento renacimiento de los representantes de la marca en Chile. Conversando con los asistentes, ocurre lo mismo que en  USA. todos aman a los Studebakers. La ubicación elegida en esta oportunidad fue la Escuela Militar en Santiago, un recinto que no recibe este tipo de actividades frecuentemente . 

After a long inactive time, the local old and classic cars in Santiago de Chile, celebrated the heritage day 2006. The location was the National Military Academy , a place  that do not open their doors to this type of activities , but this year it was the exception . 130 vehicles assisted, counting six Studebakers, some of them not seen before. Talking with the spectators everybody love Studebakers. Hope that this means a renewed of interest for the brand in Chile    

Un excepcional Champion 41 hizo su debut en estos eventos.  En pintura de dos tonos verdes, colores de fábrica,  el auto se encuentra sorprendentemente completo y en magníficas condiciones. destacamos su motor, de seis cilindros de cabeza plana, que apenas se escucha.. An exceptional Champion 41 made their debut in this meetings. In a two tone paint , after the factory colors, the car is surprisingly complete and  in magnificent condition. Their engine , a six cilinder of lateral valves, is difficult to hear when it is functioning.   
Nuevas cosas hemos aprendido sobre este Champion 1950. Ese año fue el primero en el que se lanzó al mercado el dramático diseño de punta de avión . pero la parte trasera tambien tenía una impronta aeronautica como se observa en esta fotografia.  Continua conservandose en excelente estado tal como lo ha sido estos ultimos 56 años.  Ahora sabemos que ha estado en la misma familia desde nuevo y que mantiene toda su documentacion original. No hay palabras para describir esta magnifica máquina.

New things we have learned today  about this magnificent Champion 1950. It was the first year for the dramatic Bullet Nose desing , but the rear also has an aeronautic style ,a s we can apreciate in this photo. It has been maintained in mint condition the last 56 years, as it has been in the ownership of the same family from new. It is impossible to find words to describe this magnificent piece of engineering and design.

Día del patrimonio 2006: Hermosas y olvidadas escenas es posible encontrar en un encuentro de autos patrimoniales. Vemos  este impecable Lark 1961 , pasar felizmente  mientras un batallón de voluntarios tratan de hacer partir un viejo Ford T
 

Por fin pudimos fotografiar esta hermosa y ahora deportiva Transtar de 1956,  al lado de nuestro automovil Lark Regal  con el imponente fondo del frontis de la Escuela Militar, edificio patrimonial. Ambos vehículos tambien son parte del Patrimonio sobre Ruedas chileno. ¿Que mejor que dos Studebakers para hacer la postal?  Finally we could photograph this nice and sporty, but elusive, 1956 Transtar at the side of our Lark Regal. With the impressive background made by the building of the Military Academy, a historic building. Both cars are also part of the Chilean  Heritage over wheels. ¿Are there a best combination of two Studebakers to have a perfect Post Card?  

Eventos 2005

Durante la temporada 2005 , al menos tres eventos contaron con la presencia de Studebakerchile

En el pueblo de Talagante se organizó una nueva version del encuentro anual de automoviles antiguos.  En esta ocasion , una gran cantidad de automoviles, desbordó las instalaciones previstas, haciendo dificil apreciar en buena forma los automoviles participantes.  Llegando a este evento vemos en la ruta,  este Lark VI blanco , de 1961, fiel participante en la mayor parte de los encuentros de clasicos  en Santiago. 

At Talagante, a town located around 50 kilometers from Santiago,  a  new version of their old car meeting was hold this year. The amount of cars participating surpassed the organization , so it was difficult to have a good look to the cars. Just arriving to the meeting, we spotted on the road ,  the white 1961 Lark VI, a car that appears in almost all the events in santiago

The same car also travelled to Osorno, to participate in the 10th anniversary of the Moncopulli Museum,  (Studebaker's home in Chile) , that maintains around 60 Studes in exhibition.  We see the white Lark , with 4 other Stude surrounding it. (Photo sent by the owner,Mr. Jaime López)

Gran reunión de Clásicos de Tuerca.cl. Octubre 2005 Un éxitoso evento, en el cual nuevamente participó nuestro viejo amigo Jaime  y su Lark Blanco.  Nos consta que en cada evento, muchas personas se acercan a  preguntar muchos detalles sobre este Lark. Parece que gusta.

 

Great classic meeting Number 7. October 2005. Organized by the web site tuerca.cl this event is every year a compelte success. Again, our old friend Jaime , participated in his white Lark.  We can testify that in every event , a lot of people come to ask details on this particular car. it seems that fulfill the taste of the people. 

 

En Diciembre de 2005, cerrando el año, se realizó una feria de seguridad vial en Las Condes. Allí llegó, tras un  viaje de unos 40 kilómetros, este hermoso Lark rojo, modelo Regal de 1961, que se aprecia  pequeñito al lado de un imponente De Soto de 1930.

On december 2005 , a small exhibit was made around a traffic safety   program. After a 40 kilometers trip,  arrived this nice red 1961 Lark model Regal.  Located at  the side of a giant De Soto 1930 vintage, it looks  like a mini car.

 

Dia del patrimonio 2004 - Tuerca.cl (30 may 2004)

Día del patrimonio 2004 . Esta fue la primera ocasión que se vio este trío de Larks VI de 1961. El de color rojo habiendo estado fuera de circulación por 15 años, llegó reluciente a formar parte del mundo Stude que adorna toda exhibición de automóviles antiguos en Santiago.

Quienes  mas influyeron para recuperar a este automóvil fueron los propietarios de los otros dos Larks que aparecen en la foto. Valió la pena .

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Heritage day 2004. This was the first time that this trio of  1961 Lark VI appear together. The  red car was shown by the first time after 15 years of abandon. The main support for to recover this car was given by the owners of the other two Larks.

 

Studebaker es un Champion de 1950. Merece 100 puntos. Su interior está como nuevo y su motor no se escucha. con su seria cara es una muestra de la aventura del diseño que la marca  protagonizaba  en sus mejores tiempos.

This nice Stude Champion 1950 deserves 100 points. Their interior is mint , and their engine  is not possible to hear. So silentful. . With their seriuos face, it is a magnificent sample of the adventures in design that Stuidebaker was capable to do in their best years.

 

 En Plaza de Armas de Santiago, este Lark Regal 1961 , recientemente recuperado atraía todas las miradas. Su novedoso color rojo lo hace muy llamativo.

On Main Square , Santiago , this recently recovered 1961 Lark Regal atracts all the visitors. Their brilliant metallic red likes  to everybody.
