Studebaker fue el ultimo fabricante independiente  de automoviles a gran escala,  y tambien el que tenia las raices  mas profundas en la historia de Estados Unidos. Sus orÃgenes se remontaban al Lejano Oeste, a 1852 cuando los hermanos Studebaker fabricaban la tipica carreta de los pioneros.

En la web  hay cientos de sitios con informacion sobre la marca, por lo cual no trataremos de publicar la historia de  Studebaker, salvo un resumen referencial. Sin embargo el gran resumen es  que se trataba de una marca innovadora , que siempre aposto a la caildad de diseño. Fue una de las pocas marcas estadounidenses que se atrevio a contratar a  estilistas famosos  como fue el caso,  entre otros,  de Raymond Loewy , un genio del diseÒo que entre otras cosas creo el logotipo , aun moderno , de los Lucky Strike.  

Los Studebaker tambien marcaron un hito en la historia del automovilismo en Chile, pues  una de las primeras armadurias en instalarse en el pais, en Marzo de 1960,  fue la  destinada a armar los fabulosos Lark, los ultimos Commander y las camionetas Champ.

Studebaker was the last independent car builder in the States but in this page we will not try to develop the history of Studebaker, because there are hundreds of other web site for that purpose. instead, we will focus on the heritage of the brand in Chile. 

The web is full with Studebaker sites, but this one will concentrate only in our Studes, those that at their time were, and the few that still are, inhabitants of Chile .

Studebakers also built a milestone in Chile, as one of the first car assembly factories of the country , assembled  the fabulous Larks, the last Commanders and the Champ pick up.  From March 1960 a piece of South Bend  had a small  (and modest) landmark in Chile.
